'Brick' Set-Up

This is a shot from the opening of ‘Brick’. ‘Brick’ like a lot of thrillers starts at the end, in this case, it starts by showing us that someone is dead. The camera focuses in on the girls arm and her bracelet. The use of props in 'Brick' is very significant and important especially in the opening sequence, where the bracelet is used to identify a character with out seeing their face.

The next scene shows an arm putting a note into a locker. We know that this is before the murder because the arm is wearing the same blue bracelets as the dead body we just saw. I like the clever use of props in this opening, because it shows us that it starts at the end, without having to state it in words. I think this would be a good technique to use for the opening of our thriller.
